The BIG 3-0!!!

Thank you to everyone who celebrated my big day with me!!! I had so much fun!!! Dinner at Purple Wine Cafe was fabulous and the dance party afterwards was a blast. Can't believe I am still sore - mama doesn't recover like she used to :) A special thanks to my husband and Jeanne for planning such a fun party and to Cameron for being the Party Picks guy! Also, special thanks to the pregnant lady and the sicko for coming out to celebrate when I'm sure it was the last thing you wanted to do (you know who you are). I love you all and feel so lucky to have such wonderful friends in my life!!! Thank you!!!

Back that ass up

I'm back - and getting better looking every day. Honestly, even the cellulite in my butt is adorable. (you know you agree- see picture to your right) My hair is also growing in finally (no more bald spot in the shape of a yamaka) I am still a bit of a butter ball but trying to cut back (getting harder though as it's the holidays and I just can't help myself from gorging)

We leave for Chelan on Friday and will be there all week with mom and dads parents. Should be a good time since I love to be held and I am the happiest when all the attention is on me. (as it should be). With all those grandparents there, I'm pretty sure I'll be given the attention I deserve.

Hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! I'll catch ya on the flip side when we get back from Chelan. KenaBear - out.

My 4-Month Check-Up

Well, last week was my 4-month check-up and just like I thought....I am a BIG girl! The pretty doctor lady couldn't believe how long I am - I told her she better recognize! I mean, hello! My dad is like a giant, okay? 27 inches and still growing (not to brag but that is off the charts mmmmkay) I was also pleased to see my weight has gone done a bit (like any lady, I worry about my chunkiness...especially when everytime I meet someone new they want to squeeze my cheeks and comment about what a "big" girl I am. Rude.) I am now in the 75th percentile for weight (15 lbs 1oz). I thought about dieting but those gran tetons are so appetizing I just can't say no! (that's baby lingo for my mom's huge boobies). My head has also decided to grow more so that it is proportional to my large body (50th percentile now). Thank goodness I won't have mom's Beetlejuice syndrome (you know at the end of the movie when the guy has the shrunken head? Yeah....that's not a good look).

The only other thing worth reporting is that I am still pissed about the 3-day absence my mother decided to take last week. I mean is her National Sales Meeting really THAT important? I don't think so! Thank goodness my daddy is so great with me. I even let him rock me to sleep - usually I only let the one with the boobies do that. He fed me mommy's milk from the freezer - but if I'm completely honest, the thawed version aint up to par. Fresh is best. So - mommy - if you're listening....no more trips, okay?

Later suckas - KenaBear (gansta in training)

Post from Makena

Well - I'm almost 4 months old now and growing fast. My 4 month appt is Wed. and I'm pretty sure I'll be at least 15 lbs. Eating is pretty much my favorite thing to do (besides pooping and sleeping).

These last few weeks have been pretty busy....thought I'd post some pics for you to see....My cousin, Mackenzie, turned 1 year old and her birthday party was over-rated (I slept through most of it). The worst part was when she opened up her gift from grandma (a mini-stroller for her baby doll) Then, she thought it would be fun to put me in the stroller! Everyone laughed, but as you see, I got pretty pissed off (something you do NOT want to do is upset me).

The next trip I took was to meet my great-grandma Aleen for the first time in Kennewick. She was very nice but the old bitty wouldn't stop kissing me! And I swear if one more person calls me "Chunky Monkey" while pinching my voluptuous cheeks, I will scream! Thought K-town was pretty rockin' though...now I see why my mom is so cool.

Next I went to a playdate at Aunt Ashley's house. Man, were there a lot of babies there! It was fun to see all my friends and meet Calum for the first time! Pretty sure my mom and the other old people were just there for the wine but I didn't really mind.

My last big excursion was a dinner at Aunt Katie's house. That was neat because she has more toys than Toys-R-Us and there is a LOT to look at. We all had to say goodbye to Jen and Mark which was really sad. But I told Calum not to cry cuz I'll see him soon.

Well, that sums up my October so far. Hope everyone else if having a great one! Love, KenaBear

Happy Birthday, Big D!

Happy 38th birthday to my wonderful husband, Greg. (38!! Wow you're old) I am lucky to have you as my husband and Makena is lucky to have you as her daddy! Can't wait to spend the rest of our lives with you.

3 Months Old

Makena turns 3 months old tomorrow! Can't believe how fast these months have gone. She changes literally every day. You know how people always say you never know how much you can love someone until you have children? Well, I must admit...it's true. It is truly indescribable how you feel when you become a mommy. When she smiles at me...my heart skips a beat. When I think about something bad happening to her...I feel physically ill. I believe now that a mother can kill for her children - like seriously club someone to death - for hurting her baby! The joy she brings to me daily is like nothing I've ever experienced. I can honestly say that being a mom is the most important role I've ever known and I feel blessed that I get to be her mom. I love you Makena Catherine Devine!!! (aka: chunky monkey, mooey, chunks to the monks, kena, kenabear, munchkin, sweet cheeks, mariah, valasor raptor....and the list goes on :)

GO COUGS!!!

Makena is now 10 weeks old (really?!) and growing fast. She watched her first Cougar Football game last Sat. and I know she is getting very excited to go there (or maybe I am just excited for Mom's weekends? :) For the game this Sat. she will be with Grandma Cath (greg's mom) so we can tailgate properly (aka: crush beers/behave like inappropriate college kids again).

Here are her stats from her 2 month appointment in case you were wondering: weight: 12 lbs 11 ounces (90th percentile) height: 23 1/2 inches (90th percentile) 38 cm head circumference (25th percentile) At least she's consistent (chubby and tall with a tiny head like mom!) The immunization shots were the worst part of the appt but she was a trooper (cried for 20 sec and then was fine). I think it was harder on us!

Here are some pictures of our angel with her cousin Mackenzie (they are 9 months apart) and Drew (almost 3).

How many chins does Kena have?

Seriously....we have a big girl on our hands. She was so tiny when she was born that I guess I always expected her to be on the small side. That is definitely not the case - I will post her stats after her 2-month check up on Wed. For now....enjoy some pics of our Chunky Monkey!

7 Weeks Old

Makena is 7 weeks old already! Time goes by so fast. Her 1 month check-up went great - she has gained 3 lbs already (10 lbs 6 oz) She is prebably more than that by now. She grew 2 1/2 inches too - she is in the 90th percentile for height (no shock with how tall daddy is) She is in the 25th percentile for head circumference - looks like she's gonna have a pinhead just like mom! She has been on a couple playdates with her friend Westyn - so funny how different 3 months looks when they are this young. So far Kena eats every 2-3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night. Sometimes I get in a 5-er which is amazing. (so funny how getting 5 hours of sleep seems like an eternity now :) She is the love of our lives and every day gets easier as we get to know her cries, looks, moods, etc. I will try and blog more often - have so many pics to post!!!

Chelan

Went to Chelan for a long weekend - it was awesome! Greg's parents have a time share there - 2 condos. We went with his sister and her husband/kids. I was so worried about taking a newborn on such a long car trip but she was a trooper. Slept the whole way! Then I was worried about everyone having fun outside without me (since it was so hot I couldn't bring Makena outside) But I was able to put her down and lay out by the pool with the baby monitor. It was perfect. The pool is 5 feet from the condo so it worked out nice. Even got to enjoy some great wine and adult conversation after she went to bed at night! Amazing how much you miss that.

2 Weeks Old!

Can't believe our little girl is going to be 2 weeks old tomorrow. She is already changing so much. So far she eats every 2 hours during the day and every 3 hours at night. We are swaddling her in the miracle blanket (thank God for that creation) and she is sleeping great in her bassinet next to the bed. Thank you to Ashley for forcing me to go there...I was holding her all night long for the first week and, needless to say, not getting very much sleep. I think my favorite times so far are the early morning (can't believe I'm saying this) when I'm feeding her and the sun is just coming up. It is so quiet and peaceful - you really can't explain the way you feel when you are feeding your baby from your own body. What an amazing expereince. Here are a few pics for you to enjoy! Love you all.

Makena Catherine Devine

Well, our little girl decided to come early! My water broke at 3am on Monday night and she was born at 4:47 pm Tuesday (June 23rd) She was 15 days early!! I was dilated to 3cm when we got to the hospital and progressed with pitocin from there. Got my epidural at 5cm (around 1pm) and felt amazing! From there everything went really fast...started feeling the need to push and realized I was already at 10 cm by 4pm. The doctor barely got there on time - I pushed her out in 34 minutes! It was truly the most amazing experience of my life. Greg was so encouraging and counted for me while I pushed - we had music going from a great band called Gomez. I was dancing between pushing (seriously - that is how wonderful this epidural was!) We went home at 1pm Wed - she had her first post-pardem check up Friday and everything looks great! She has already gained an ounce from feeding (after losing a few ounces) She weighs 6 pds 14 oz right now but my milk came in last night so she will hopefully start gaining consistently from here on out. Can't believe it's all over and now the fun begins (sleepless nights here I come) Love you all and thank you for your thoughts and prayers!

BABY SHOWER

Here are some pictures of the baby shower last Sunday. Special thanks to my girls Ashley, Leah and Jeanne for throwing such a fun party! Can't believe how huge I look in these pictures...

2 CM Dilated!!!

I just back from my 37 week appointment and I am 2 1/2 cm dilated and 50% effaced! My doctor seemed pretty shocked that I was progressing so fast. Last week I was 1 cm dilated. Don't want to jinx it -but it would sure be nice to have her come a few days early! A 4th of July baby would be so fun!! Everytime she saw the fireworks we could tell her everyone is celebrating her birthday!

Maternity Pictures

I have been such a slacker! These pictures were taken a few weeks ago at Ashley's house with Misty's fabulous camera! Here are a few of my favorite.

Our 1 Year Anniversary

We celebrated our one year anniversary this weekend! Went to the fancy Canlis Restaurant in Queen Anne on Sat. night - it was amazing! Then on Sunday we went to Emerald Downs - I won $145! Beginners luck - I picked 5 of the winning horses out of 6 races! Then we went to Jaks in Issaquah for dinner. Lots of good food and sunshine is my idea of a great weekend!

We got married on Kaanapali Beach in beautiful Maui last Memorial Day Weekend. Can't believe how fast a year has gone by! They say the "first year" is the hardest, but when you marry the right person - that's just not the case! (and trust me...I know :) I hope everyone enjoyed the sunshine this weekend and spent it with the people you love the most.

Happy Mother's Day to all my girls!!!

This is a shout out to all my girlfriends who are mommys are about-to-be mommys!!! You are all my inspiration and I am so blessed that I have you all to talk to, commiserate with and support while we are all going through the craziest, most amazing time in our lives! I'm serious when I say I couldn't do it without you.

8 more weeks to go and the anxiety is starting to build! Now that Kena's nursery is finished, I've been busying myself with other home improvements...(HGTV is possibly the best program ever created) We purchased new shades for all of our windows - they are "honeycomb" shades that will block out the sun in the summer and keep us insulated in the winter. Plus they are the "blackout" kind so you can make the bedrooms super dark for naptime :) I ordered dark pink ones for Kena's room to match her bedding and they turned out so cute! My next project is the flooring in the bathrooms - you can purchase click-in tiles to go over linolium (again gotta love HGTV) I have also re-grouted all our bathroom countertops with a grout pen - Lowes baby. I need to get a life. :)

Where is my belly button going?

Looks like it may pop out after all! 30 weeks today and counting....

28 WEEKS

Got the rocker for the nursery - looks so cute! Here are some final pics of the nursery. Still have to put up the border but everything else is done. She's moving a lot now and it's getting harder to get comfortable. No swelling yet but these last couple months could make me eat my words. 85 days to go....count down!

More pictures....

We had a very productive weekend working on Makena's room! We finally got Greg's friend to pick up the couch and chair in our master bedroom to make room for my desk. It actually looks pretty nice - we created a little "sitting room". Now the nursery looks a lot bigger! We put her name up on the wall above her crib - it was so cute watching big, manly Greg put each letter in place perfectly and then stand back to make sure it was centered. So adorable! Now we just need to get our glider/ottoman (it will go in the corner by the window) Now that the nursery is finished....what am I going to do now?? :)

Makena's Nursery

Congratulations to Ashley and Troy Haigh on the birth of their beautiful daughter Westyn Marie Haigh. She was born yesterday March, 18th at 12:59 pm. Mom and daughter are doing great. She is absolutely beautiful!!!

On another note....I finished putting together Makena's nursery this week. It's so fun to decorate a little girl's room. Here are some pictures. I also went to the doctor this morning for a post-car-accident ultrasound to make sure everything looks okay and to do the glucose-test. Everything looks great - she's got some really long legs (uh-oh...do I see a basketball player in the future?)

Car Accident - so scary!!!

Friday afternoon was very traumatic for Makena and me! I was driving north on I-5 and a kid in a jacked-up Chevy Tahoe lost control and swerved into my lane. His back right bumper collided with my back left bumper and pushed me into the right hand lane. It happened so fast - thank goodness he pulled to the side immediately and gave me all his information (thank God he was insured!) I was so shaken up that I could barely talk - I just kept thinking what if Makena is not okay? The police were on the scene within minutes and I was able to drive to the hospital after that. The E.R. doctor hooked me up to a machine that monitors contractions to make sure I wasn't having any. They were worried the force of the impact could have torn the placenta from the uterine wall. (scary stuff, huh?) But I wasn't having contractions or any cramping/bleeding plus her heartbeat sounded strong. They did some urine tests and found a little bit of blood so they kept testing until it came back clear. All-in-all it could have been a lot worse. My poor car is in the shop now and hopefully will be fixed in the next couple weeks. I felt the worst for Greg - that is not a phone call any husband wants to get. My parents were here this weekend so we just hung out with them and tried to take it easy. Hope all of you had a better weekend then I did!

Halfway there....

We hit the halfway point! The second trimester seems to be going by a lot faster than the first trimester. Although I'm starting to have back pain already which means the third trimester is going to be painful. Our next appointment is March 19th for the blood sugar test....which is really funny since I sell a blood sugar test for a living. :) I told Greg he didn't have to go to this one since they are done doing ultrasounds. I always look forward to hearing her heartbeat though. There really is nothing like the feeling you get when you hear your baby's heart beating! Here's a picture of the belly - 22 weeks, 2 days. I've gained 9 pounds so far but sometimes it feels like 90. No swelling or vericose veins yet....keeping my fingers crossed. Hope everyone has a great week!

IT'S A GIRL!!!

YAY!!! Just got back from our 20-week ultrasound and the pictures showed a definite va-jay-jay. I would say I told you so but my husband would probably hurt me :) He's a little shell-shocked still but I know he'll come around. She's gonna have him wrapped around her little finger. Most likely she'll dread going to mommy's dance classes and want to play hoops with dad instead. Either way, we're just so glad she's healthy and growing the way she should. Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers! SOOOO excited to buy cute little dresses!!! :)

Ashleys Baby Shower

Yesterday was Ashley's Baby Shower! It was a lot of fun. All of those adorable gifts really had me wishing for a little girl! Think of all the hand-me-downs she is going to have! :) 9 more days to go until we find out.....the suspense is killing me! Here are some pics to make you laugh - love you all!

The baby is moving!

Felt the baby move a few days ago! It is the most amazing feeling - like a little butterfly inside you fluttering around. I know he or she will be kicking hard soon but right now it's a really nice feeling :) Also, I was able to move up our ultrasound date to the 18th (patience is not my strong point obviously) So now we have only 2 weeks to wait to find out what we're having!!! Love you all.

Month 4

Month 4 is over and I thought I'd post another belly pic! Finally starting to look pregnant instead of like I had too many cheeseburgers :) We find out the gender Feb. 20th - can't wait! The first trimester went by so slow but now it seems to be going by fast! Love you all and can't wait to post about our baby girl in my next blog!
